system simulation

Summary

  • Despite annual significant investments, healthcare systems have been facing the problem of overcrowding. Staffs and facilities in many places are required to operate intensively to provide enough health services.

  • Deficient capacity results in prolonged waiting times and negative impact on patient health. To address this issue, a discrete event simulation model is developed utilizing Arena simulation software and real-time data collected from a major hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

  • Based on the simulated model, the system downsides in procedure flow and resource utilization are discovered. Alternatives are proposed to reduce process delays and deploy the system capacity to its best.

  • The new system performance is evaluated based on waiting time and operational efficiency indicators presented in the Ministry of Health’s regulations.
