Why this site exists

Hey, welcome to my silly corner!

I feel that it’s important for me to understand why this site exists and why I felt the need to create it. This post is less about introducing the site to others and more about explaining it to myself.

To begin with, I don’t come from a computer science background. But ever since I discovered the world of tech, I’ve been fascinated by it. I wanted to understand software engineering, how people build apps and systems, and I wanted to learn about data science and the algorithms behind it all.

I used to spend some time learning about computer science, reading papers, and trying to understand models and algorithms. I did that on and off for a few months, but I’ve never really studied any of it in depth. Most of what I know is just bits and pieces I’ve picked up by exploring on my own and scratching the surface. Despite being far from an expert in this field, I’ve always had a special fondness for it.

I enjoy working on small projects, and building a personal website has always appealed to me. It’s not really about putting myself on display. It’s a space where I learn to express myself, document things I want to revisit later, and figure out who I am without the pressure of presenting myself to the world. It’s a challenging but fun project to work on. And I like that it’s quieter and more personal here.

These days, it’s easier than ever to build a website with user-friendly, low-code or no-code platforms like Wix, WordPress, Squarespace, and Notion. Still, there’s something special about building your own site and being able to shape it through code.

Of course, I’m no tech expert and only know a little bit of code, so this site isn’t my own work. I’ve used quite a few templates made by people far more experienced than I am. The problem was that many of them became too complicated for me to maintain, and a lot of the fancy-looking designs just didn’t fit my style.

When I came across the GitHub repository for this template and gave it a try, it felt like exactly what I was looking for. It’s simple, easy to use, and built mostly with plain HTML. As someone who’s still learning, I really appreciate that.

So, a big shout-out to the author and contributors behind this repository for creating and sharing it. If you’re interested, you can find the repository here ➡️academic-homepage.

Funny how building this site makes me feel pretty cool. Hopefully, I’ll be able to keep learning through it and maintain it for years to come.

That’s all. Thanks for coming by.
